Did anyone catch today's episode of The Tyra Show? If not, you missed out! Her guest she had on throughout the entire show, was none other than editor-in-cheif of Allure Magazine Linda Wells. I know you've all heard of Allure Magazine, it's one of the best fashion mags to exist. She shared all of her beauty secrets, from her new book Allure: Confessions of a Beauty Editor. She busted mom myths and other beauty myths. Like, when you're putting on your face lotion, always apply it upwards in circular motions. Because it will keep your face from getting saggy, total myth! So don't worry, you can apply it any way you want to, it doesn't matter. I knew that was a myth, I wonder how many others I know?
You remember, your mom telling you not to put on deoderant because it causes cancer? No way! That's a myth?!?! Yes, it's a myth. It doesn't cause cancer at all! So go ahead, put on your deoderant, and smell good! She also told the things that we all know we do, but just don't want to admit to. Like, when your nails polish gets yellow or when it chips, you think... Oh, nobody will notice I'll just leave them for today, and do them some other time... Terrible idea, because everyone notices! Cutting your cuticles, a lot of us do that (I don't though). It's a really bad thing to do, because the cuticles are there to keep your nails healthy, and keep the bacteria out.
If you missed the show, this is something you really missed out on. But luckily, you have me to report on all of this, ha ha. Here are Allure's 10 Commandments (beauty, of course)!
#10 Skin Care: If you want real results, give products up to six months to work.
#9 Skin Problems: No matter how big the mustache, never raise a razor to your face.
#8 Face: Blush should go on the apples of the cheeks, not the hollows.
#7 Eyes: Don't merely comb the lashes, wiggle the mascara brush right at the base of the lashes.
#6 Body: Choose a washcloth over loofas and puffs (which are breeding grounds for bacteria and fungi).
#5 Hair Care/Style: The best ponytails are anchored either up high or on the head or down low on the neck.
#4 Haircut: Sign language works better than words with stylists. Point to exactly where you want your hair to fall.
#3 Salons & Spas: To escape mindless chatter, close your eyes. It's the universal sign for silence.
#2 Nails: When your nail polish turns yellow or chips, admit defeat and remove it all.
#1 Lips: Lip liner should never, ever be visible.
I'll admit some of these things that I do (and I'm sure a lot of you do too). I don't wait six months to see if something is going to work, that's a really long time! I only use loofas, so I'm out there. I'm more of a victim of #2, than anything else. I do that a lot, but now I'm going to follow these beauty commandments... or at least I'm going to try.
